Audiobook Review – Forever Lies: A Mafia Romance

Stuck in an elevator with the most gorgeous man I’d ever seen—
Who thought that kind of thing actually happened?

This man wasn’t just attractive; he was animal magnetism personified.
He was every crush and craving—each desire and fantasy—all rolled into one.

The problem?
There was something sinister lurking beneath that tempting façade.
Something dark and ruthless.

Luca Romano locked his sights on me the moment those elevator doors closed.
I couldn’t escape him, no matter how hard I tried.

There was a mutinous side of me that didn’t want to run.

As if I ever had a choice…

Review

I seem to be in a reading slump or it is taking me longer to finish books because I keep book hopping. Jill Ramsower created a great mafia tale. One of my favorite kinds of books to read. This is one book you should know nothing when going into it. So I will say this. The characters have some hot chemistry.

Mackenzie Cartwright and Teddy Hamilton are both amazing and very easy to listen. Mackenzie is a new voice actress to me. I love her. I will be listen to more from her. I’m a long time Teddy Hamilton listener. Both voices work well together. Their range is great and it was a great experience listening to both of them.

Audiobook Review – Lock and Key

What do a mysterious necklace, forbidden Blood Magic rituals, and a sarcastic Nocturne boy with the face of a fallen angel all have in common?

Me, apparently.

Since I started school at Nocturne Academy, strange happenings have befallen me. The werid key-shaped necklace I found at a flea market chokes me every time I try to take it off. Also, a tall, blindingly beautiful and bitingly sarcastic Nocturne has the lock that matches it.

His name is Griffin Darkheart and–like this freaking necklace–I can’t seem to stay away from him, though he’s being Censured for mysterious crimes. Among a student body composed of vampires, witches, were-dragons, and fairies, I no longer know what my future holds.

To heck with graduating with honors–I’m just hoping to graduate alive! Nocturne Academy is full of deadly dangers.

And I’ve already got a target on my back…

Readers who love Bully romance, brooding vampires, were-dragons, witches, warlocks, fairies, and fae will sink their teeth into Nocturne Academy where there are dark secrets, forbidden magic, and determined heroines just trying to survive.

Review

I said this is the first book I’ve ever listened to by Evangline Anderson and I have to say this because very intriguing. It did take me a little bit to get through because I feel like you’re just kind of thrown into this world and it takes a little bit to understand the language being used. Because there is this whole system of magic put into play and some of the labels in terms were a little difficult to kind of understand and I feel like it’s not really explain. By the end I understood and I got it.

The main character I really liked when you’re first learning about her magic you’re kind of not put off by it but like yeah I understand why she’s doing what she’s doing. I don’t want to give away any spoilers. I love a good academy novel I love anything with vampires and witches in anything that is otherworldly. But I love the fact that they don’t have a werewolves in this book they have were-dragons.

Riley Barrett is the woman who narrates this book. This is the first book I’ve listened to by voice actress Riley Barrett and it was a great time. Riley has a very smooth voice and for each character she has a distinct voice so you know who she’s reading for. I don’t believe she had to put on any type of accent for any of the characters so I can’t attach to her range of accents. Overall I would definitely listen to another book that she would narrate.

Audiobook Review – Kings of High Court College

Bully King Audiobook By JA Huss cover art

Bully boys.

Arrogant tyrants.

Blue-blood bastards.

Call them whatever you want.

Around here, we just call them Kings.

Fancy boats.

Lakeside mansions.

Luxe watches and bespoke suits.

The Kings of High Court College act like Gods.

And Cooper Valcourt is the worst of them.

He is the bully king.

His family owns everything.

And his mission is to put me in my place and send me packing.

But Cooper and I have a history filled with secrets.

And everyone knows that power doesn’t come from having money.

It comes from holding secrets.

And I’m holding one of his.

A very dark secret that can bring him to his knees.

Bully King is a new-adult, dark, bully romance from New York Times best-selling author JA Huss featuring boys with power and girls at their mercy. It’s a campus shrouded in lies and a summer rush into an elite society that can propel a poor girl straight into the ruling class.

If…she’s willing to pay the price.

Ruling Class (A Dark Bully Romance) Audiobook By JA Huss cover art

You want the diamonds?

You want the mansion?

You want the lake, and boats, and the cars?

You want the security?

And the man?

Then you do what you’re told.

I live in his castle.

I sit at his feet.

I wear his collar.

I am his offering.

The Chosen Ones…the Ruling Class.

They are a breed apart.

And yes, that pedigree matters.

Not just anyone can rise above and become their equal.

It takes sacrifice.

Ruling Class is the final book in the Kings of High Court College Duet by New York Times best-selling author, JA Huss. It is a dark bully romance with triggers.

Review

When it comes to a bully romance there is a fine line that is drawn into the sand. The book can either be very very good and done well or it can miss the mark completely. J.A Huss hits the mark with this series. Right from the first book I was hooked. I had to force myself to go to bed because I just wanted to keep listening.

Bully king was an interesting book. Right when I thought I had everything figured out J.A Huss would throw you a curve ball. A lot of these books can get very redundant and very repetitive. Huss bring new life into this genre. Cadee and Cooper are connected more that ever now. I will stop there because as in with most books I choose to listen this is one book that you really need to go into and just listen blindly. Doing it that way trust me you will not be disappointed.

Book 2 picks up right where book one left off. It is a wild ride. Just like book one you are left in the dark with all of the secrets. But it makes you that much more invested in the story and I think that’s what the author was going for. So finishing the second book took longer than I had been expecting. While the first half of the book was really good by the second half I found a lot of it repetitive and boring. This book is dark that is for sure. Not the darkest book that I have read but not the lightest either. I mean for me one of the biggest turn offs of this book and I don’t know if this is a spoiler but the secret society really seemed to really seemed to be anti-LGBTQ+. This did not sit well with me. The ending was ok. I felt like there were still a lot of questions unanswered. I enjoyed the first book but the second fell short for me.

Jacob Morgan and Emma Wilder are perfect to voice these characters. Jacob Morgan is my one of my favorite male performers. He breaths life into any story that he narrates. There is no one voice actor that stands out over the other. They both shine.

Both of the performers had to put on a British accent as one of the supporting characters is from England. Jacob Morgan performs this accent flawlessly. Emma Wilder if I would’ve known she was American I would’ve believed that she was from England. The voice actors make it extremely easy to understand what they are saying no to characters sound alike. Both of the voice actors tunnel range is impeccable. They really know when to emphasize their words to put emotion behind them and they also know when to back off to create the right mood for what they’re reading. There is a great distinction between each of the characters so that way you know there genders as well as their ages.

Audiobook Review – The Devil’s Riders Books 4-5

Dance with the Devil Audiobook By Joanna Blake cover art

I’m one of the Sons of Satan, part of an inner circle we call The Devil’s Riders. I was just a prospect when I first saw her. Becky Townsdale, the curvy girl who worked at Mae’s diner. She’s so pretty it hurts to look at her. I waited to make a move until I was officially a Devil’s Rider.

And then, the night of the club Prez’s wedding, I made her mine. Devlin and Kaylie might have gotten married that night, but we’re the ones who made a baby. I just didn’t know it yet.

Now she’s back in town to help Mae save the diner before it gets shut down. She’s avoiding me, but I’m not having it. I’ve waited a year to get over her, and it never happened. I want her back, this time for good. And that’s before I find out about the baby. She’s mine, and she doesn’t even know it yet.

Marked by the Devil Audiobook By Joanna Blake cover art

Women fall into my lap. Until an innocent beauty crosses my path and wants nothing to do with me.

I’m one of the Devil’s Riders, the inner circle of one of the biggest motorcycle clubs in California. My brothers and I live on the edge of society, and we like it just fine.

I’m swimming in easy women, but I’m easily bored. Then one day, I see her: Molly McRae. She’s easy on the eyes and sweet as pie. All I want to do is take a bite.

From the moment I see Molly, I’m on a mission. I chase her down and learn her name. Then I begin my campaign to make her mine.

I want to mark her. I want to tattoo her silky skin and kiss away her tears.

Hell, I want to put my brand on her. My name. My ring. And I won’t stop until she’s mine.

Contains mature themes.

Review

This is the continuation of my last review books 4-5 there are two more book in the series and I’m still not sure if I’m going to continue with this series. I have loved every book that I have listened to. Joanna Blake is a fantastic author. Each book seriously got better. My favorite has to be book five. These characters I fell in-love with their story. Molly is the first character who is an actual “outsider”. She doesn’t start off knowing any of the other girls from the other for books. Which I thought was a great way to hook the reader.

I will say my only real criticism is going to be that by book five we have ten POVs. Which yes each one for the most part moves along the story. I just feel like it’s to much. I really just want to hear from the two characters that the book is about. Please write more book with the other characters. I mean there are five book that could have been five series that I would have happily sat there and listened to each one of those books. That is how much I love each set of characters. f

Troy Duran and Kendall Taylor are the two amazing voice actors for this series. I love both of them. Troy has a great balance when it comes to voicing both male and female characters. Kendall is great her range is fantastic. I could listen to her all and I have been for the last week.

Becker Hunt is back and this time he’s not letting Eleanor walk away…

Series Review

Move over Jesse Ward with your countdowns to make way for Becker Hunt and his sexy shhhh.

Jodi Ellen Malpas does it again! She is a master at creating a story that sucks you in.

This is one of the many reasons I love reading her books. It really is an escape. There were a lot of times in this series where I tried to predicted what the outcome would be. I was not even close. Typically, I’m very good at predicting what is going to happen in books because most all of romance books follows the same formula. I should have expected that Jodi doesn’t follow that formula but creates her own.

With these two books you are wrapped up in a fast romance with some treasure hutting. It really great to see a romance novel differ from all the rest out there. Jodi had crafted these characters so you feel like you know, that you are friends with them. By the time you look up you are done with the books.

This is one series that you just have to dive head first in. We wonderful writing and characters. You are not going to regret picking up these books.

When Mexican-American author Aidèe Jaimes isn’t chasing after her energetic daughter and spending time with her happily ever after husband in their Florida home, she’s living other lives through her characters. As her writing evolved into darker, sexier, no holds-barred stories, she transitioned from the pen name Haden Hudson, to the author she is today!

TwitterFacebookGoodreadsAmazonInstagram

Aidee Jaimes tells a story that some people think about. In the description it tells of a husband that cheats on his wife and she finds out. Now she has her ticket or hall pass as I like to call it (based off the movie.) Aidee writing keeps you engaged throughout the whole story. The story is hot and heartbreaking at points.

Felicia Palmer is great. I don’t think there could have been someone else who could have brought this story alive. There is a little child in the story. When there is a child I find that most narrators usually miss the childlike voice but Felicia hits it on the head. Which keeps you engaged the whole time. There are southerns accents that she pulls off great. They sound authentic.

I can’t wait to read the second book.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Aidèe Jaimes. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Q&A with Author Aidèe Jaimes
  • Tell us about the process of turning your book into an audiobook.
    • The process itself is quite simple for the author, because the producer or narrator, does most of the work. I simply approve. The hardest thing for me was finding the perfect narrator. I auditioned several until I came across Felicia Palmer. She blew me away with her audition and I knew she was the one!
  • How did you select your narrator?
    • I auditioned. There were some very good narrators, but they were missing something I couldn’t even name. The story is extremely emotional, and I needed to hear that. When Felicia took on Cris, I felt every bit of her angst.
  • How closely did you work with your narrator before and during the recording process?
    • With Felicia, she took on the role of Cristiana and made it so much her own, along with all the other characters, I didn’t have to guide her. The only time I assisted was during the pronunciation of Cris’s first name, Maria. Other than that, she was amazing.
  • Were there any real life inspirations behind your writing?
    • All of my writing has some sort of real life inspiration behind it. Although you may never know which part I actually played in it. I may have been the heroine or the villain. In some cases both. This is no different. Writing is my outlet, and I pour everything I am into it.
  • Is there a particular part of this story that you feel is more resonating in the audiobook than in the book format?
    • The main thing about this story is that it’s extremely emotional. Something my readers mention a lot is that they can feel her angst through the words. Felicia’s audio performance intensifies that tenfold, and I really believe even people who’ve read the Affair series, will find this to feel greater.
  • Have any of your characters ever appeared in your dreams?
    • I’ve never had characters appear in my dreams. Nope. They haunt my every waking hour though!
  • What’s your favorite?
    • My favorite food is: Pizza
    • Song: I have too many!
    • Book: Too many too, but I will say Sherillyn Kenyon’s Fantasy Lover is one I hug to my chest when I get my hands on it.
    • Television Show: Chopped
    • Movie: The Scarlet Pimpernel (I love the book too!)
    • Band: Metallica
    • Sports Team: Don’t watch
    • City: New Orleans!!!!!
  • Are there any of those things referenced in your work?
    • I often reference those things in my books because every single character, good guy, bad guy, and their mothers are all me, therefore they like what I do! The most influential of my likes however, is New Orleans. You will see that all the time in my books. It’s where my heart goes, the place that makes me sigh, and where I ache to see again.
  • Are you an audiobook listener?
    • I actually just recently started listening, and I really love it! But I still also love the smell of a book!
  • What’s next for you?
    • Next for me is a long list! I have several books in the works for the year and into the next, as well as other audio books currently in production. One of these includes the spinoff of The Ticket and Red Dress, called The Promise. Also being produced by Felicia Palmer!

Book Review – Indigo Dusk

When Kairi Freemont happens upon a winged man on her parents’ Tennessee Ranch, she’s given what she’s wanted ever since the day she was diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome: An escape from the pain of her chronic, invisible illness.

Through the power of the Aetherial Sun, Aro shows her there’s not only a place where her pain disappears but that she can live in a fairytale world of Unicorns, Fae, and magic she’s always wished was real. But when Kairi discovers that meeting Aro was no accident, that she may have lived a whole past life at Aro’s side before being stolen away by the monstrous Draconians, things start to spin out of control.

Are the Draconians, a race of banished dragon riders who have long since lost their precious reptilian steeds, as monstrous as the rest of Aetheria believes? And what lies at the heart of Aro’s motivation behind sweeping Kairi off her feet? Is it simply flirtation and his desire to give her a better life, or is the truth far more malicious than she could have ever expected?

REVIEW

Kristy weaves a tale of magic. This is a beautiful story of the acceptance of oneself as well as the rediscovery of oneself. Not only is this story magical its is a bit educational as well. The main character draws with a condition called EDS which stands for Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. It is great to see a character dealing with issues that are not well known. It brings them to the light to help desigmtis hidden syndromes. Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean someone is not going through it.

I really don’t want to go to much into the book because I believe with all of her books you should just read them and been taken along for the ride. This is one ride that you will not want to miss.

Audiobook Review – Instinct The Elite, Book 1

Instinct audiobook cover art

I’m not like the vampires in your books, little girl. I’m not agonizing over my own soul or the ethics of drinking your blood. I don’t want saving or to find some great love that will alter my very existence. I’m not a monster. I’m the devil himself, and I have no problem playing that role. I take what I want, and right now, what I want is you. And there’s nothing you can do to stop me.

The Elite is a PNR series of novelettes.

Book Review

Hanleigh Bradley tells a story of a girl who lives in London and loves vampires but what happens when her books become her reality? Hanleigh Bradley really knows how to spin a tale even in the shortest of time. I can say much about the books because it is so short. I will say this though you will be on a ride. One that you will not want to get off.

Debbie Soelter has the type of voice that keeps you listening. She was reading for both the male and female lead. I thought that she did a great job when it came to the female lead and an ok job when it can to reading for the male lead. She had to put on a British accent. This added depth to the story and this is the party that keeps you listening.

The sound quality was great and professional. There were no sounds gaps or awkward pauses.

This book was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Audiobook Review – The Hook-Up Handbook

The Hookup Handbook by [Ryan, Kendall]

My love wand is on a strike. As bad as that blows, pun unintended, it’s 10 times worse for me. I’m a male escort, but not just any escort, I’m the escort. The one with a mile-long waiting list and a pristine reputation that’s very well-deserved.

Only now, I’m on hiatus. Because after years of pleasing women all over the city, my man missile decides to get finicky. And the only woman he wants? Someone I can never have – my best friend’s younger sister, the nerdy and awkwardly adorable Sienna.

She’s working at the agency this summer, keeping me organized, handling paperwork, and, most importantly, keeping me on track to finish writing my book about sex and intimacy, which is due to my publisher in 30 days.

She thinks I hate her, that I don’t want her here. The truth is much more twisted. I get hard every time she walks into my office. Her wide blue eyes and pouty mouth drive me wild with desire, and if she stays, I’m not sure how much longer I can stay away from her.

Little Miss Overachiever says she’s here to help? Fine. I’m going to put her nerdy, curvy tush to work.

This book intrigued me just by the name alone. The Hook-Up Handbook? I mean come on. Plus it’s a Kendall Ryan book. On top of that Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke. This is a recipe for a great time. Kendall Ryan did not disappoint with this book. Let’s be real though any book she writes it never disappoints. Sienna and Case their story is so cute. Sienna is looking for a summer fling to get over her ex but she as not expecting to fall in love with her boss. Case just wanted to help a friend out by hiring his little sister he did not expect Sienna at all. The writing and the dialogue I love it. It feels real. Please pick up this book.

Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke. I love them. Together the are one of the it duos for me. Their voices pair together so well. Erin has a great range when it comes to her voices. Same goes for Jason. I can’t say enough good things about these to.

Thank you all for joining me here in our little part of wonderland. Please don’t forget to feed the unicorns on your way out.
